OSU LECTURE ON POWER SYSTEM MODELING

Title: Modeling and Decomposing Multi-Stage and Multi-Scale Stochastic Investment Problems

 

This lecture will give a lesson on capacity-expansion modeling with renewables & energy storage by Professor Ramteen Sioshansi of The Ohio State University. 1.0 hour of CPD credit will be provided to attendees as needed. This will be a joint event with the OSU IEEE Student Chapter.

Abstract: Power system generation and transmission expansion problems are inherently difficult due to uncertainties, costly and long-lived investments, and long lead times in assets being built. This talk will give an overview of how to capture the various scales of uncertainties and decisions in these types of problems and the various time dynamics. The use of decomposition and clustering techniques to make these problems computationally tractable will also be discussed.
